Insights

Insights provide a deeper understanding of problem and solution space by directly linking customer discovery and other research data insights to workspace cards. The insights offer evidence to organize the opportunity space better, prioritize workstreams, and identify better solutions.

Insight Views

The insights views contain references to insights collected, where they originated (customer), and where they are leveraged within the workspace.

Inbox

The inbox is where all collected insights are stored. Insights can be directly added to the inbox or imported from a supported integration.

Once an insight is added to a card within the workspace, it will no longer display in the inbox but can be found in the Catalog view. This way, you can quickly tell which insights are used in your workspace and which are not.

Catalog

The catalog contains a reference to all insights that are attached to a card within the workspace. Insights are sorted in the catalog by the date they have last been added to the workspace or updated (whichever is the latest).

Tip: Hover over the eye icon to see which card the insight is attached to.

Customers

When adding insights, a customer can be specified. It will then display in the customer tab, grouped by that customer. Discover the last time insights were gathered from a particular customer, what they were, and jump directly to where they are in the tree.

Adding New Insights

Insights can be added to Vistaly in several ways.

From the insights view

From the Insights view, select “New Insight”

Summarize the insight and optionally tag it with labels to provide context. A “reference URL” can optionally be added so others can find more information about the insight.

Tip: You can add images to your insights to provide additional context.

From the browser extension

After installing the browser extension, select the Vistaly extension icon to add new insights.

Tip: Highlighting text before clicking the extension icon will append that text into the body of the insight. Note: Most websites do not alter the default copy behavior, but some may require direct copy-paste.

From Slack

There are two ways to add an insight from Slack.

Add insight using the slash command (/vistaly)

To add an insight using the slack command, type /vistaly insight and send the message. This will open the insight menu for adding a new insight.

Add insight using the Slack message menu

Select the three-dot menu next to the message you’d like to convert into an insight. Creating an insight using this method will automatically populate the insight message with the body of the Slack message.

Both methods of creating an insight will open the insights form.

Attaching Insights

Insights sitting in an inbox won’t do a whole lot. Attach them to existing cards to provide additional context and improve discoverability.

Tip: Insights can be grouped by selecting multiple before adding them to a new or existing card.

To add insights to the workspace, select Attach to card. You will then be redirected to the main workspace for attaching those insights.

Find the card you’re looking for on the Tree to attach the selected insight(s).

…to an Unmapped card

Similar to adding insights to cards in the Tree, search the unmapped cards and add your insights to a selected card.

Viewing Insights

Attached insights can be viewed in the node drawer by selecting the “Insights tab”. Cards that have attached insights will display a lightbulb icon with the insight count on the card on the Tree.

Insights can be removed and edited from the “Insights tab” as well.
